Once again I have been hit hard by the sewing bug that plagued me before.
Once again I have raided, pilfered and pulverised my stock of mishmatched fabric scraps to make more fanciful things that I really don’t have much of a need for.
It all started when I happened to peruse a blog that I frequent quite a lot. You see the author is a bit of a design genius and happiness exploded when she provided a tutorial for a fabric brooch.
Hastily I printed it out, grabbed my scraps
and used (she mentioned) a CD for the pattern piece. How clever is that when you need a circle eh?
No machine required and during a classic cheesy musical marathon (“SOY SAUCE!”) I started to sew up the first one,
A few pins later, and a button, in less than ten mins I ended up with this;
By then the bug had caught fever pitch and despite the fact that I didn’t have any more buttons I had to make more.
You all know I just can’t make one.
So I sewed up a line of fabric, bunched it up and created the middle for most of them, and then tried it with three smaller circles and got these four finished before Muzzy emphatically yelled “Raspberries”;
These are just too much fun and so simple even a dunce like moi can make loads!
Clicky here if you want to know how.
I’m cheap so there were somethings I did a bit differently. You see I didn’t have any felt so I just cut out a smaller circle for the back, folding it over as I sewed and tried to make not look like a hedgehog roadkill specimen, and since I didn’t have enough buttons I just sewed the bunched up middle parts directly to the back so mine looked really messy and nothing like Clare’s, I also didn’t have the clasp for a proper brooch but found out that a large safety pin will do…I mean noone’s going to see the messy bit right? Not even you as I didn’t want to embarrass myself.
So uh…..viola!
