This weekend Mike and I were able to impose ourselves on Mike’s Best Friend, Al and his ever so gracious family. It was an exhausting weekend but I really enjoyed myself.
We took a quick trip through this little village. It’s not the most picturesque of places but I still love it that I get to see scenes like this just about everyday.
If you would have told me 5 years ago that I would be living here, or even visit here I would have smacked you one upside the noggin….not that I’m violent or anything *wink*
They also had an awesome pub that I need to go into someday. When you don’t drink there’s not much to do in a pub….but then again I don’t gamble and went to Vegas one to many times. That justification has completely destroyed this paragraph. *shuffling people along a line* Nothing to see here people, move along.
Oh wait…before you run away check out the awesome creepiness of the guardian of the above mentioned pub. I think he’s flirting with me. Be still my heart.
Anyhew we took a walk along the shops and were told of a house in a conservation area that we might want to take a look at. We didn’t have an itinerary per ce, we were just going to go with the flow but well, why not?
So we start driving through towns whose lanes start getting smaller and narrower than the first. Then the style of the homes starts aging and we pass churches and buildings built during the Victorian area.
Our GPS guides us to this teeny country lane and tells us to turn left at what appears to be garages. I’m thinking that this cannot be right.
We turn into the drive and behold this;
My jaw promptly dropped open, fell to the floor and rolled under the seat! This is the
Sorry for the reflection. I should have thought far enough ahead to move the paper off of the dashboard. But I was so entranced with the fairy tale scene in front of me that it took all of my concentration to peel my eyes away long enough to get the camera out of it’s case.
Here’s a view from the other side:
We were looking at the farthest white stoned cottage. We took a look around and it was absolutely beautiful! Unfortunately (don’t you hate that word?) It just wasn’t suited for us. You’re surrounded by neighbours on three sides of you. There are no gardens, it’s a bit squished and it’s just not a place for a family. If we were business executives or retirees than it would have been spot on. I suppose the stereotypical English countryside will just have to wait.
Sunday came along and we attended the Eastwood Ward Chapel. Those people are awesome! I have never felt more welcome in a ward I was visiting.
After church Al’s family and us took a bit of a walk near what they call a lake, a pond is more what I call it. We had a bit of a wander and I was able to get some awesome photos. The sun was actually out! According to the radio news this morning this has been the wettest August in the last 100 years. Ahh…Engurland. I didn’t know until I moved here that umbrellas count as fashion accessories. My fav is my purple satin one.
We said our goodbyes and “raced” Al’s fabulous kids down the street. They won. The Peugeot is a shopping trolley compared to the Ferrari. Those two munchkins are so much fun! They make me broody.
On the way home we were a bit confused with this;
As far as I know it was a factory and no one was hurt thank goodness….cuz it makes for sweet photos that I can post without feeling gulty! Thanks arsonist dude!
Well there you have it. A weekend recap that probably bored you to tears right? Ok….I’m off to work.
Toodles – Ariane
You didn’t think I would leave you like that with touching on the title of the post did you? What do you take me for?
Oh.
Really?
…. Oh yeah I suppose you’re right….
Oh pants!
Well, regardless of what you think of me I have to share this. Now I know it’s not as awesome as the previous find but it made me giggle once again. I think my mind is a little too perverted for it's own good.
First thing I’ve learned whilst driving in

Also, I almost peed myself at that sign! I think it's better than Penistone! ;)
If you do come please tell me and we'll do lunch or whatever hicks like me do!
Long Eaton isn't very near me now....however it's a small world because I may be moving to a town just four junctions up the motorway from that. Freaky.
My Aunt & Uncle come over every couple of years, so that's nice. And my cousin married a yankee, so they live just across the border in the US. I'll take photos, I promise.
Also, I'll post all of the weirdo brit sayings that they drop while they're here... that always cracks me up!
The pictures are beautiful. Does Al live in those cottages?
no Al doesn't live in those cottages he has a "new" (for british standards) place but he's looking to upgrade as far as I know. He kept telling Mike and I that he wanted our house and that it should have been his - the cheeky monkey
